The premiere of Jukajoki was a success in the Kontiolahti municipal center with over 100 people from the regional administration, media, villages attending.
Director Tom Miller and producer Nuin-Tara Key from PrettyGood Productions had a Q&A session after the film together with Selkie and Alavi representatives. A fantastic night! Now the Jukajoki film is available for DVD and internet purchase at contact // snowchange.org
In other March news, Snowchange has been filming the winter seining on Puruvesi this week. Later in the year a 3 minute and 15 minute professional videos will be shared, also in English, to highlight this special traditional fishery that has records beginning from the 1300s.
We will be on community tour next week in Tornio watershed and Sámi communities next week to advance steps of Näätämö river catchment co-managemet and predator fish harvests. Spring is looming around the corner, meaning another busy open water season both in North Karelia for domestic work and in the member and partner communities across the Arctic.
