Spring-summer bird surveys on the Snowchange rewilding sites are under way. Highly endangered, southernmost Willow Ptarmigan population in Parkano area has been determined to benefit from Snowchange Rewilding sites.
Snowchange bird specialist Ari Parviainen discovered willow ptarmigan (lagopus lagopus) presence on the 2018 rewilded Salojenneva wetland in Pirkanmaa, Finland. This is the southernmost population of the bird species in Finland and highly endangered due to the loss of natural habitats of the bird. This extremely positive news comes at a crucial time in the Landscape Rewilding Programme and is an early indicator that only two years after restoration, the Salojenneva site is delivering major biodiversity results and the model works.
